€100 million Highway in Western Canada: Bilfinger Berger concessions business develops in North America
Bilfinger Berger has extended its successful concessions business to North America. Following a recent Financial Close, "Trans Park Highway Group", a concession company wholly owned by Bilfinger Berger will develop, finance and maintain a 26-kilometer stretch of the Trans Canada Highway. For a fixed monthly performance fee paid by the Province of British Columbia, Bilfinger Berger will ensure the availability of the highway during a 25-year operating period. The project volume amounts to approximately €100 million, while Bilfinger Berger's equity commitment is around €9 million.
The highway runs across the Kicking Horse Pass, connecting the Western Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta. A key element will be a new 400m-span bridge across the canyon, built on columns rising up to 80 meters high.
Bilfinger Berger's concessions portfolio is continuing to grow dynamically. At the end of September the Group reached Financial Close on a further UK schools project in the English county of Kent and with a volume of €130 million. A consortium led by Bilfinger Berger will design, finance and build six schools and operate them for a period of 28 years.
In the development of its concessions business, Bilfinger Berger is concentrating on the two primary sectors of public buildings and transportation infrastructure. The geographic focus is on the key markets of Australia, North America and Europe. Although the Group's project portfolio is still young, it is already contributing substantial value added and its share of Bilfinger Berger's net profit will grow significantly in the future.
