Further expansion in concessions business: Bilfinger Berger to realize toll expressway in Hungary worth €470 million
Bilfinger Berger is expanding its concessions activities according to plan. The company, along with Austria-based partners Porr Infrastruktur GmbH and Swietelsky International Bauges. mbH, has signed a contract to realize the M6 expressway between the Hungarian cities of Budapest and Dunaujvaros. The consortium will design, finance, build and operate the 58-kilometer-long M6 for 22 years, and will receive a fixed monthly fee from the Hungarian government over the operating phase in return for making the highway available for use. The total project volume is €470 million, with Bilfinger Berger having a 40 percent share in the concession company.
Bilfinger Berger has many years of experience in privately financed transportation infrastructure projects and is currently realizing the 2-kilometer-long Cross City Tunnel under central Sydney, a €520 million toll tunnel set to go into operation in mid-2005. Bilfinger Berger is playing a major role in realizing the Herrentunnel in the German city of Lübeck, which is also scheduled to enter into service next year.
The private sector concession activities of Bilfinger Berger are in a long-term expansion phase, with a focus on public buildings and transportation infrastructure. This extensive experience and know-how in public-private partnerships has put Bilfinger Berger in an excellent position in the developing PPP market in Germany.
