Water supply tunnel worth €60 million - Bilfinger Berger plays a key role in Munich's water supply
Bilfinger Berger AG has been commissioned by the Munich utility company Stadtwerke München Versorgungs GmbH to undertake the turnkey construction of the fourth and last section of the water supply tunnel running from the Mangfall area. The conduit has a diameter of 3.4 metres and is 18 kilometres long. The contract is worth €60 million.
As part of renovation work carried out between 1993 and 2001, Bilfinger Berger was in charge of laying the first three sections of pipeline running from the area that traditionally supplies Munich's drinking water.
Bilfinger Berger is a leading specialist in tunnel construction both in Germany and abroad. A few days ago, the company was awarded a joint contract with Swiss and Italian partners for the 6.2 kilometre-long core section of the Gotthard base tunnel. The contract is worth a total of €740 million. The success of the company's strategic move into the civil engineering sector in neighbouring European countries is also reflected in the high-profile tunnel projects, worth a total of €200 million, that the company took on in the previous financial year in, for example, Gothenburg, Warsaw and Vienna.
