Solid expansion of civil engineering activity in the US: Bilfinger Berger constructs three kilometer bridge structure with a total value of €250 million

The Bilfinger Berger Group is successfully expanding its business with infrastructure projects in the United States. The Fru-Con affiliate received a contract to build an overall three kilometer long bridge in Toledo, Ohio. The total value of the contract is €250 million. The heart of the structure is a 470 meter long stay-cable structure spanning the Maumee River. It is connected on both ends with conventional foreshore bridges and ramps.

Extensive public-sector infrastructure measures financed through public investment programs are currently pending in the United States. Fru-Con sees good opportunities to playing a decisive role in the implementation of major projects. The company has had years of experience in the civil engineering, energy, and waste-water sectors. By consistently networking its existing in-house expertise, the Bilfinger Berger Group expects to further expand its competitive position within the US.

Bilfinger Berger is successful in the execution of demanding infrastructure projects throughout the world. The company is building an 80-kilometer section of a new high-speed railway line in Taiwan, between Taipei and Kaohsiung. Last year, tunnel driving was concluded for a 15-kilometer section of tunnel for Bangkok's first underground railway line, and Australia's longest express motorway tunnel was completed in Sydney. Both projects were completed several months in advance of the contractual deadline. The globalization of the civil engineering business is also reflected in key European tunnel construction projects. Bilfinger Berger is active not only in building the 6.2 kilometer core section of the Gotthard base tunnel, but also in the construction of road and underground railway tunnels in Sweden, Poland and Austria.
