Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon Dr. Hans Wittmann receives award for his involvement in Nigeria

Dr. Hans Wittmann (66), longstanding member of the Executive Board of Bilfinger Berger AG, has received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon to honor his outstanding services to the Nigerian nation and his contribution to the fostering of German-Nigerian relations.

Bilfinger Berger has been active in this West African country for over 30 years through its affiliated company Julius Berger Nigeria. With around 20,000 employees, the company is the country's largest private employer. The training it provides is exemplary, as is the medical provision for employees and their families. The award also honored the longstanding trust and close relationship between Hans Wittmann and the Nigerian government which has made a significant contribution to the continuing enhancement of German-Nigerian relations.

As a member of the Executive Board of Bilfinger Berger AG, Hans Wittmann was responsible for the Group's global operations from 1979 to 1996. He played a significant role in shaping Bilfinger Berger's involvement in Nigeria, an area of key importance to the Company. Hans Wittmann is one of the few Europeans to have received high-ranking awards from the Nigerian government.
