Trade Specialist
Bilfinger Berger Budownictwo, Warsaw, Poland
What are you working on right now?
I’m currently responsible for goods-flow management at the airport railway tunnel construction site in Warsaw. We are the general contractor for a railway connection between the central railway station and Okêcie Airport. Thanks to the work we are doing, it will be possible to cover this distance in just 20 minutes by the time the European Football Championships start in 2012. I am also working on public-private partnerships focusing primarily on market research and project analyses.
What is your most important tool of the trade?
Standard software like MS Office, Workflow2 for documentation circulation, and tools like RSS or Google News that provide me with instant information from the market.
How do you describe your job to friends?
I mostly do calculations, for example, to work out how much steel is required on the construction site and how many pieces of heavy equipment are needed. I also deal with invoices and check which services have already been carried out.
Which aspects of your job do you find particularly interesting?
I like working in civil engineering. It’s great to know that you are working on creating something substantial and that thousands of people will use the infrastructure you had a hand in building.
What do you like to do when you are not at work?
I love cycling, playing scrabble and Heroes of Might and Magic III!
